SASO was born from real moments with the people closest to us. One friend, who was expecting her first child, needed something lightweight, simple to carry, and easy to set up. Another friend, picking up surfing as her new favourite hobby, and needing a shade option she could manage carrying and setting up solo. A third, an avid camper and outdoor lover, was looking for something compact that could travel anywhere. And for us, we wanted something vibrant and nostalgic. Something that looked beautiful in photos and felt special in real life, but without any of the fuss. No fiddly parts, no boring beige, just functional, feel-good shade that made it easier to stay out longer.

Our travels around the world also played a huge role in shaping SASO. Experiencing stunning beaches in Europe and beyond, we were inspired by the way other cultures embraced colour, pattern, and design in their outdoor lifestyles. We wanted to bring a touch of that vibrancy home to Australia, blending it with our laid-back coastal way of life.
